In 2000, MusicfestNW (MFNW) was a mere dream. The idea: Portland needed a music festival to match the towering aspirations of a city that was becoming a global player. Today, Portland is one of the most exciting cities on the planet and MusicfestNW, a 6 day festival attended by over 34,000 people has become the third largest indoor music festival in the United States and now includes 4 nights of outdoor shows in “Portland’s Living Room” Pioneer Courthouse Square. Time magazine dubbed MusicfestNW “one of 50 Authentic American Experiences”.

A few of the bands that MFNW has showcased over the years include: Modest Mouse, The National, The Black Keys, Passion Pit, The Decemberists, Girl Talk, Vampire Weekend, TV On The Radio, Beirut, Explosions In The Sky, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Wiz Khalifa, The Kills, Dinosaur Jr, The Hives, Silversun Pickups, Built To Spill, Bad Brains, Sunny Day Real Estate and many, many more.

In 2012, MusicfestNW expanded to include three days of tech programming bringing the creative talent of Portland closer together. Appropriately dubbed TechFestNW; our goal is to capture the creative spirit and drive that fuels Portland’s flourishing start-up scene. This city is filled with compelling builders and thinkers in the tech space. TechFestNW provided the perfect platform to showcase the best in tech on both a local and national scale.

“MusicfestNW has emerged over the last decade as a showcase for Portland, Oregon’s music community and more broadly, the city itself… the 2012 edition did not suffer for a lack of highlights.”

—What Culture

“That MFNW continues to reach far and wide for national-caliber bookings (when it feels like others are scaling back) to put on one of the country’s larger indoor music festivals at the same time as the city’s also hosting a tech conference… without any of it feeling hectic is deeply impressive.”

—The Stranger

“Basically, the only similarity between MusicfestNW and most other festivals, is that by the end you just want to sleep for a million years.”

—The Fader

Q: I’m considering buying a MusicfestNW wristband. What will this get me?

A: A general admission wristband will gain you free access (on a first-come, first-served basis) to every indoor club show during the six days of MFNW. In addition, each wristband purchase includes a guaranteed admission ticket for at least one of the shows at Pioneer Courthouse Square. There are three types of wristbands available for purchase.

General Admission Wristband: $90*—free access to every indoor club show, plus ONE show of your choice at Pioneer Courthouse Square: Young The Giant on 9/5, Animal Collective on 9/6, The Head and The Heart on 9/7, or Neko Case on 9/8.

All-Show Wristband: $150*—free access to every indoor club show, plus guaranteed entry to ALL FOUR shows at Pioneer Courthouse Square— Young The Giant on 9/5, Animal Collective on 9/6, The Head and The Heart on 9/7, and Neko Case on 9/8.

VIP Wristband: $300* (must be 21+) —immediate entry to all MFNW shows, including the shows at Pioneer Courthouse Square (Nike shows are general entry, see below). You will also receive invites to all of the MFNW parties (details TBD).

*Service fees apply on all ticket/wristband purchases

Q: Is there anywhere other than to buy my wristband?

A: We have chosen Cascade Tickets as the exclusive ticketing company for MusicfestNW wristbands. MFNW and Cascade Tickets have done everything in our power to keep the service fees as reasonable as possible. Wristbands are available online Click here to go to their website. Click here to visit the MFNW ticketing page. You can also come visit us at Willamette Week. We are pleased to offer festival wristbands and individual tickets for select venues free of service fees when purchased at our office, located at 2220 NW Quimby St. We are open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.

Q: Do you sell advance tickets to individual shows?

A: Yes, we sell advance individual tickets to the shows at the Aladdin Theater, Crystal Ballroom, Roseland Theater, Wonder Ballroom and Pioneer Courthouse Square. Check out our ticketing page for all the info.

For all other venues, see the next question.

Q: Are individual tickets available for venues not listed above?

A: Yes. During the festival we charge at the door of most clubs. Just show up to the venue and pay the cover charge to the MFNW employee working the door, get your stamp and you’re in! Entry is dependent on available space in the venue, so be sure to arrive early.

Q: First-come, first-served? Am I going to be able to get into anything?

A: We reserve space at every MusicfestNW club venue for wristband holders. Every year, some of these venues fill to capacity at some point during the evening. If there is a band you don’t want to miss, we recommend arriving at the venue as early as possible. Your other options are to buy an advance individual ticket to a club for one night, which guarantees you entry to that one show (this option is only available for shows at the Aladdin Theater, Roseland Theater, Crystal Ballroom, Wonder Ballroom and Pioneer Courthouse Square), or to purchase a VIP wristband, which guarantees immediate entry to all MFNW venues (except the Nike venue).

Q: What’s the deal with Nike shows at the Wonder Ballroom?

A: MusicfestNW is excited to partner with Nike Sportswear again this year for a series of free shows at the Wonder Ballroom.

Check back on August 22 for announcements around how to access the Nike+ Shows

Q: I’m under 21. Can I still buy a wristband?

A: Yes, but there are certain MusicfestNW venues that are 21+. Even with a wristband you won’t be able to get into these clubs. Our four largest venues, Pioneer Courthouse Square, Crystal Ballroom, Wonder Ballroom, and Roseland Theater, are all-ages venues. To see a full list of venues and restrictions, please click here. You must be 21+ to purchase a VIP wristband.

Q: OK, I bought my wristband and I received a ticket in the mail. How do I exchange it for my wristband?

A: We don’t mail wristbands*. If you buy a wristband online, we will mail you a ticket that you can exchange for a physical wristband. You can exchange this ticket at Willamette Week’s office (2220 NW Quimby St.) both before and during the event (From 9am-5pm).
