CHVRCHES are Iain Cook, Martin Doherty and Lauren Mayberry – three individuals bearing three distinct personalities on a consummate whole. Combining indie sensibilities and aesthetics with barbed pop hooks and and an unhealthy obsession with Prince, CHVRCHES take elements of classic electronica, hip hop, rock and post-punk, and yet sound like none of the above. Their blend of classic and modern analogue synthesisers, bruised beats and crude vocal sampling came to the fore with their song “The Mother We Share”, released in late 2012, as it did in “Lies”, their first track that seeped onto the internet earlier in the year. CHVRCHES were voted #5 in the BBC Sound of 2013. They released their debut EP Recover on March 26th via Glassnote Records to critical acclaim, sold out their first tour of the states in March and will have a full length album out early this Fall.
